Target Audience
General urologists, urogynecologists, female urologists, neurourologists, uro-oncologists, andrologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians performing female sexual dysfunction clinical trials.
Course Description/Purpose/Need
This course will provide the urologist and urologic allied healthcare professional who may already see women presenting with urologic conditions with the basic science principles and a rational, step-care clinical paradigm to better care for women’s sexual health concerns. Diagnostic strategies will include history and physical examination, use of vulvoscopy, quantitative sensory testing, blood tests and genital blood flow testing. Management strategies will include pelvic floor physical therapy, pharmacologic treatments (hormonal and non-hormonal) and surgical management. This learning experience will include didactic lectures, questions and answers, case studies with ample discussion to emphasize critical points. Extensive handout materials for future reference by attendees will be provided.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- interpret the current state-of-the-art in basic science, physiology and pathophysiology of female sexual function and dysfunction
- describe the multi-disciplinary nature of the step-care treatment paradigm for female sexual dysfunction
- determine when a referral to a psychologist, physical therapist and/or sexual medicine physician is required for the woman with sexual dysfunction
- diagnose and treat, with sex steroid hormones and other medical therapies, a woman with sexual dysfunction presenting in a community setting
- identify when a woman with sexual dysfunction should consider surgical options

Cancellation Policy
Through November 11, 2008 the cancellation fee is $125. Cancellations received after November 11, 2008 will be refunded minus a $150 administrative fee. No registration fees will be refunded after December 1, 2008. The AUA has the right to cancel this course if a minimum enrollment is not reached by Monday, November 10, 2008. If the AUA cancels this course registration fees will be refunded in full and notification will be sent by Wednesday, November 12, 2008.
