AUA Relationships

In addition to Urology's sub-specialty societies and the Association's geographic Sections, the AUA works with an assortment of domestic and international organizations. The Board of Directors reviews annually a chart of how these organizations are defined and grouped according to domestic versus international-based offices and activities. Survey tools are used to profile organizations that request affiliation with the AUA and to determine criteria that can be used when assessing an organization wishing to affiliate with the AUA, especially in health policy and advocacy.

Domestic

Socio-Demographic Groups – are defined as member segments focused on urologic education and advancement and policy initiatives in support of members.

Affiliated Organizations – are composed of urologists – primarily AUA members – that pursue issues of concern related to urology and meet one or more of the following criteria:

Other Special Interest/Advocacy Groups – are organizations formed by AUA member segments; focused on urology and defined by single goals and advocacy on their behalf at the State or National level; and have no formal affiliation with AUA.

Liaison Organizations – are multi-disciplinary; NOT comprised primarily of AUA members, nor have urology as primary focus; these organizations influence health and education policies and/or funding impacting the AUA.

International

Multi-National Urology Organizations – are multi-national urologic societies that are members of AUA's International Relations Committee, which may have reciprocal exchange programs, lectures and collaborative programs.

International Health Organizations – are organizations that focus on the advancement of basic and clinical urology; organizations which serve as directing and coordinating authorities for health within the United Nations system, which further systematic development of health care and clinical practice.

National Urology Associations – are the main Urology associations of single countries. AUA activities range from simple correspondence, posting of meetings/events, to academic exchanges and joint educational programs.
