The AUA is searching for a Chair of Education to succeed Dr. Elspeth McDougall whose successful six-year term concludes on May 31, 2015. Appointed by the AUA Board of Directors for a four-year term, renewable for a total term of six years, the Chair of Education is a paid consultant who reports to the Board and receives guidance from the Secretary who is Chair of AUA's Education Steering Group.
The Chair of Education is responsible for the quality and medical accuracy of the content for all domestic educational offerings of the Association and coordinates activities with the Chair of Global Initiatives for AUA's International Education Plan (IEP). The Education Chair serves as the Education Council Chair and provides leadership and oversight to the Council and its sub-committees. Domestically, this includes but is not limited to, identifying and evaluating faculty, subject matter, and format of AUA Annual Meeting Instructional, Postgraduate and Hands-On Courses, etc. In addition to maintaining and updating AUA's Urology Core Curriculum, the Education Chair will work closely with the AUA/ABU Examination Committee on the development of qualifying and certification exams. Participation in committee, staff and other related meetings may require up to 50 days travel annually.
Internationally, the Chair of Education will work with the AUA Secretary, Chair of Global Initiatives and staff to develop materials for AUA's e-Learning site (AUAUniversity), modify existing educational materials, and develop new programs in accordance with strategic IEP initiatives.
The ideal candidate must be an AUA Member, certified by the American Board of Urology, active in the practice of Urology, and a recognized urologic educator with a proven track record of achievement in graduate and postgraduate urologic education. Candidates must have knowledge of education delivery methods, experience evaluating outcomes and effectiveness of programs, as well as the ability to recognize and utilize new educational and instructional technologies. Outstanding diplomacy and superior negotiation skills are required.
