AUA-EAU Academic Fellowship Exchange
Introduction
The American Urological Association (AUA) and the European Association of Urology (EAU) are pleased to continue an award program designed to provide young urology faculty with an international perspective on urologic medicine. The AUA/EAU Academic Fellowship Program promotes the sharing of knowledge between the United States and Europe.
What are the eligibility requirements?
less than 42 years of age (at time of application)
MD degree and full-time academic appointment at rank of assistant professor or higher
completion of application process, including a letter of recommendation from the department chair
active membership in the AUA
strong statement of interest and availability to travel for approximately three weeks
What is the objective of the program?
The AUA/EAU award program is designed to provide young urology faculty with an international perspective on urologic medicine. The program was created to promote the interchange of urological skills, expertise and knowledge, and provides outstanding and promising junior faculty members with an opportunity to interact with colleagues in Europe. Medical advances are often the result of fruitful collaboration and this interchange is designed to facilitate such opportunities. The program not only allows the sharing of knowledge and experience, but is designed to foster a closer alliance between the AUA and EAU, and assists in identifying future leaders within both organizations. During odd numbered years, European urologists visit U.S. centers, and in even numbered years, U.S. urologists travel to European host sites.
How does the program work?
During even years each United States urology program will be given the opportunity to nominate one faculty member for consideration as a candidate. From these nominations, three young urologists from the United States will be selected by the AUA/EAU Academic Fellowship Program Committee to visit academic centers in Europe (determined by the EAU) and will participate in a three week program. The 2010 program will be available for application late summer 2009.
