Correct Coding for Home Visits

Mark T. Edney, MD, Named 2012-2013 Gallagher Health Policy Scholar

Mark T. Edney, MDThe Gallagher Health Policy Scholar Program Selection Committee is pleased to announce the selection of Mark T. Edney, MD, as the 2012-2013 Gallagher Health Policy Scholar. He is the sixth urologist to receive this honor.

The Gallagher Health Policy Scholar Program, created in honor of former AUA Executive Director G. James Gallagher, is designed to train the next generation of urologists for leadership positions in health policy. Scholars spend a full year engaged in critical seminars, conferences and meetings at the national level; receive mentoring from senior AUA physicians; and participate in a week-long health policy seminar for surgeons at Brandeis University, sponsored by the American College of Surgeons. Scholars also engage in other activities that ensure their immersion in and understanding of health policy issues important to urology. The Gallagher Health Policy Scholar Program Selection Committee is chaired by Steven M. Schlossberg, MD, MBA, chair of the AUA Health Policy Council and is composed of all the chairs of the Council’s reporting committees.

Urology Practice Experience with Meaningful Use for 2011
In 2010, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) created the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program, designed to offer a monetary incentive for the Meaningful Use (MU) of EHRs from 2011 through 2015. 

AUA, AUA Foundation Host Prostate Health Month Events on Capitol Hill

In recognition of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the AUA, the AUA Foundation and the National Football League (NFL) joined together for two special events in September to raise awareness about prostate cancer on Capitol Hill and to promote the Prostate Research, Outreach, Screening, Testing, Access and Treatment Effectiveness (PROSTATE) Act (H.R. 2159/S. 1190), which was re-introduced earlier this year in both the House and the Senate.
