LINTHICUM, MD, April 28, 2009--The American Urological Association (AUA) is pleased to honor the following reporters with the third annual Excellence in Urology Health Reporting Awards:
Chip Rowe received the consumer print publications award for his article titled, “The Sexual Male: The Hard Facts,” which was published in Playboy.
Alan Mozes received the consumer electronic publications award for his article titled, “Statins Might Reverse ED in Some Men,” which was published by HealthDay.
Steven Brandes, MD received the trade publications award for his article titled, “Using urethral slings to manage post-RP incontinence,” which was published in UrologyTimes.
“We are pleased to honor these journalists for responsible urologic health reporting,” said Chair of the AUA Public Media Committee Ira D. Sharlip, MD. “The award entries this year were very impressive, but these journalists’ articles stood out as exemplars of journalistic excellence and a commitment to quality health reporting.”
The awards were presented during a “Toast to Urology Health Reporters” reception on Monday, April 27, 2009 in Chicago, IL, during the AUA Annual Scientific Meeting. All entries were judged by a committee of urologists on accuracy, completeness and public impact.
The AUA established the awards in 2007 to recognize outstanding news coverage of urologic health topics. The award is designed to honor journalists in both trade and consumer media outlets for responsible, informative reporting on health topics in urology. In addition to the award, these reporters will receive a stipend.
