JOINT ADVOCACY CONFERENCE BRINGS UROLOGY’S VOICE TO CAPITOL HILL
LINTHICUM, MD, March 19, 2010–The American Urological Association (AUA) and the American Association of Clinical Urologists (AACU) are pleased to once again co-sponsor the only advocacy meeting specifically devoted to urology. The Fifth Annual Urology Joint Advocacy Conference will be held March 21 through March 23 at the Ritz-Carlton, Washington, DC. One of the highlights of this year’s conference will be the unveiling of two pieces of AUA-authored legislation focusing on prostate cancer and urotrauma.
“Urologists understand the importance of advocacy—especially now that healthcare reform legislation is making its way through Congress,” said AUA Associate Executive Director of Health Policy Beth Kosiak, PhD. “This year’s conference will see record attendance because our doctors want to get involved and they understand that this is the best venue for learning about healthcare reform and advocacy.”
The Joint Advocacy Conference is designed to educate urology advocates about the AUA’s new legislative agenda and to teach them effective lobbying strategies to successfully communicate health policy priorities to members of Congress. The 2010 meeting will focus on national healthcare reform and how the current legislation could impact physicians and the practice of medicine.
These presentations and interactive sessions ensure that urologists are prepared to advocate forcefully for the field and effectively lobby their elected representatives throughout the year.
Confirmed Members of Congress who will be speaking during the Conference include: Representatives Michael C. Burgess, MD (R-TX-26); Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD (R-LA-07); Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ-06); Phil Roe, MD (R-TN-01); Michael J. “Mike” Rogers (R-MI-08); and John M. Shimkus (R-IL-19).

McClellan, MD, PhD, former Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, former Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and current Director of the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform; Senior Fellow in Economic Studies; Leonard D.
