AMERICAN UROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION NAMES NEW OFFICERS AND BOARD MEMBERS

Linthicum, MD, May 9,2013 – The American Urological Association (AUA) today announced the following new officers and members to the Board of Directors:

Pramod Sogani, MD, has been elected the 2013-2014 President of the AUA. Previously AUA President-Elect, Dr. Sogani served as the New York Section representative to the AUA Board of Directors. He is currently anattending surgeon at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, professor of clinical urology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and adjunct professor of clinical urology at SUNY Downstate in New York. Additionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as a member of 25 national and international medical societies.

William Bohnert, MD, has been elected the 2013-2014 President-Elect of the AUA. Dr. Bohnert previously served on the board of directors and multiple AUA committees. He is currently the senior member of Urology Associates, LTD, a division of Arizona Urology Specialists in Phoenix, Arizona. Additionally, he is a mentor in the AUA Leadership Program, has served as president and chairman of the Board on many state and local societies and has been a member of the AUA since 1975.

Steven Schlossberg, MD, has been elected the 2013-2017 Treasurer of the AUA. Dr. Schlossberg previously served as treasurer-elect. In addition to these positions, he has also served the AUA as the first chair of the Practice Management Committee, chair of Health Policy, vice chair of Health Policy, AUA alternate to the AMA Relative Update committee and mentor in AUA’s Leadership Program.  Additionally, Dr. Schlossberg served the Mid-Atlantic Section of the AUA as a Board member and representative to the Health Policy Council and was most recently the chief medical information officer for the Yale New Haven Health System and the Yale School of Medicine.

The AUA would like to welcome the following Section representatives to its Board of Directors:

John Denstedt, MD, has replaced Kevin Prankinoff, MD, as the Northeastern Section Representative. Dr. Denstedt is currently the chair of the Canadian Association of Surgical Chairs and city-wide chair and chief of the Department of Surgery at The University of Western Ontario. The first Canadian member to have been honored with the AUA Gold Cystoscope Award, Dr. Denstedt maintains an active clinical practice, serves on the editorial board of seven urology journals and is currently managing editor of the Journal of Endourology. 

Kevin R. Loughlin, MD, has replaced David F. Green, MD, FACSas the New England Section Representative. Dr. Laughlin is a professor of surgery (Urology) at Harvard Medical School and a senior surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He previously served as secretary and president of the New England Section of the AUA and currently serves on the board of directors for the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologists.
