CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: EXCELLENCE IN UROLOGY HEALTH REPORTING AWARDS

The American Urological Association (AUA) today announced a call for nominations for the third annual Excellence in Urology Health Reporting Awards. The AUA established the awards in 2007 to recognize outstanding news coverage of urologic disease topics. The awards will be presented during a “Toast to Urology Health Reporters” reception on Monday, April 27, 2009 in Chicago, IL, during the AUA Annual Scientific Meeting.

The award is designed to honor journalists in both trade and consumer media outlets for responsible, informative reporting on health topics in urology. Awards are given annually in the following categories: Consumer Print Publications, Consumer Electronic Publications and Trade Publications. Applicants may submit their own work, or be nominated. Awardees will receive a stipend and an award.

“It is important that the public be presented with the most current information about scientific advancements that improve urological healthcare,” said Ira D. Sharlip, MD, chair of the AUA Public Media Committee and clinical professor of Urology at the University of California, San Francisco. “In urology, we have seen powerful developments that have had a major impact on the health of our patients. These awards are our way of honoring those journalists who have presented these advances in urologic healthcare to their readers in an accurate, informative and thoughtful manner.”

Submissions for the 2009 awards will be accepted through Friday, February 27, 2009. All materials must have been published or broadcast between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008. All submissions should include a cover letter, contact information for both the nominee and submitter (if applicable), and five copies of the submission (for electronic media, please submit individual CD-ROMS; for print media, please limit to 8.5x11 format). All entries must be received by close of business on Friday, February 27, 2009.

Submissions should be mailed to:
