Dr. Watkins: Don’t Wait Until the JAC to Get Involved!
I recently had occasion to visit Washington, DC and was prompted to consider a Hill visit. It so happened that Congress was not in session, but I didn't let that deter me. An opportunity to visit with the health aide alone should not be missed and can still be productive.
Being basically lazy, I contacted the AUA Government Relations & Advocacy office at GovernmentRelations@AUAnet.org and they readily got me an appointment.
AUA Government Relations & Advocacy Director Sandie Preiss met me on the hill with "talking points" on purposed legislation vital to urology. With her deep knowledge of the issues, she helped "double team" the aide. I thought it went very well.
So, if you're going to be in DC, try to get in a Hill visit. You don't need to wait until the Joint Advocacy Conference in March, but plan to attend that as well. Also, send in your UROPAC donation!
