Back to AUA Academic Exchange Programs
2011 American Urological Association (AUA)/Indian American Urological Association (IAUA) Chakrobortty Fellowship Program
Background
The IAUA has administered the Chakrobortty Fellowship with great success since 1990 in honor of their founding president, Dr. Hitendra Chakrobortty. In the spirit of collaboration, it was decided that a partnership between the IAUA and the AUA can directly impact the educational opportunities for young urologists while improving the delivery of quality care to patients in India. Such collaboration will also enhance the knowledge and global perspectives of AUA and IAUA members in North America.
Therefore, the AUA and the IAUA have partnered to create the AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program to further promote the interchange of urological skills, expertise and knowledge, and provide outstanding and promising junior faculty members with an opportunity to interact with colleagues in the United States. Medical advances are often the result of fruitful collaboration and this interchange is designed to facilitate such opportunities.
The program is designed for two Indian urologists to travel to the United States for up to a 3-month period prior to and/or after the AUA Annual Meeting. During these visits the scholars observe urologic surgeries/procedures, attend clinics and staff activities.
2011 Timing
The AUA Annual Meeting will be held in Washington, DC from May 14-19, 2011. Scholars will spend approximately three months prior to the meeting at two-three U.S. institutions and will end their trip with attendance at the AUA Annual Meeting.
