Become Part of AUA's Future and Get Involved!
Have you ever wondered, "How can I become more involved in the future of the AUA?" Have you wondered what goes on "behind the scenes" of the AUA and how your association conducts its business to serve you and the needs of urologists every day?
If you answered "yes" to the above and are 1-15 years out of training, you are a prime candidate to apply for a future AUA Leadership Program Class! The application phased for the 2010-2011 AUA Leadership Program Class is now closed. The application cycle for the next program class will open in August 2011. The AUA Leadership Program was developed in 2004 to encourage younger members who have demonstrated leadership skills and an interest in further developing those skills to become the AUA leaders of tomorrow.
"My participation in the AUA Leadership Program was a very positive experience for me in many ways. I found the course content informative and the learning methods enjoyable. Without question the program enhanced my understanding of the workings of the AUA. More importantly my involvement allowed me to meet a number of colleagues with similar professional interests and career stage leading to a number of fruitful networking opportunities. The program also served as a springboard for my own leadership aspirations. Since completing the course I have become Treasurer of my section (Northeastern), and have had the opportunity to become involved in several AUA committees. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of the Leadership Program and highly recommend it to young urologists contemplating leadership responsibilities."
-Hassan Razvi, MD
Three Leadership Program classes, consisting of 47 individuals, have graduated and moved on to assume Section and AUA leadership positions. They benefited from the guidance of mentors, past and present AUA leaders who have risen strategic leadership positions after years of leadership development and experience. The AUA Leadership Program provides a year-long experience of activities and opportunities to not only develop core leadership competencies, but also the venue to form valuable relationships with your peers, who also share the desire to become future leaders of the AUA.
"I was truly impressed by the Leadership Program. The opportunity to meet with the leadership and the staff, and understand all the functions of the AUA was the highlight of my program experience so far. Networking with individuals who are also committed to serve the AUA results in relationships that can be lasting. Furthermore, many of these colleagues are from geographical regions and subspecialties that may be different from yours, whom you would have not otherwise interacted with. The mentors made the difference- from a good to an exceptional and unique program! They seemed to take their role seriously and truly cared about the participants' professional goals and objectives."
