Clinical Practice Guidelines

The development of cutting-edge, evidence based guidelines for urological diseases and conditions are the responsibility of the AUA Guidelines Department. Staff and consultants work with panels of prominent physicians and other leading experts to review and analyze pertinent scientific literature in the creation of guideline statements that are linked to the strength of published evidence. The development of guidelines involves both rigorous, systematic analysis of data and clinical considerations, and a nine-stage procedure was created to assist with this process.

The department also provides staff support for the Practice Guideline Committee (PGC). This AUA physician committee serves as a resource to guideline staff and panels on AUA guideline issues. Because of their clinical expertise, the PGC members may advise other departments within the Health Policy Division and the AUA at large.
