Description/Purpose/Need

In 2008, Stage Migration in clinically localized prostate cancer is creating challenges in everyday patient management. Patients with one core (out of 12 to 24) positive for low grade cancer are now very commonplace. A typical patient may be a 62 year old man with a PSA of 4.5ng/ml, a DRE consistent with BPH and no nodules and a “microfocal” single core positive with Gleason 3+3=6 prostate cancer. While conventional wisdom suggests treatment recommendations for radical prostatectomy or radiation, newer approaches being considered include surveillance, focal cryotherapy, HIFU, and other novel ideas. With this in mind, this AUA Webinar will explore this new phenomenon and discuss patient counseling and treatment options.

Attendance is limited for the live program. 30-minute program with a 15-minute question-and-answer period following the presentation. Program will also be available on-line the day after the live event.

Target Audience
This program is designed for all who treat prostate cancer, primarily urologists and radiation oncologists, with additional interest during September for internists, family practice and allied health professionals.

Learning Objectives
After completing this module, the participant will be able to:

1. Review the changing epidemiology of low risk, localized prostate cancer and the incidence of microfocal disease.
2. Discuss the comparison of this biopsy finding with the “Gold Standard” radical prostatectomy pathology and how often we are led into a false sense of security with misinterpretation.
3. Analyze the growing interest in improved imaging and focal therapy approaches to this now common condition.

Accreditation
The American Urological Association (AUA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The AUA takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of this CME activity.

Credit Designation
The American Urological Association designates this educational series for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ or each webinar activity for 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
