AUA Guidelines Development

Looked to as a conceptual leader for how to move the practice of urology forward, the AUA makes a substantial investment in producing guidelines. To develop them, the AUA places great emphasis on integrating research-derived evidence into clinical practice, using explicit scientific and transparent methods. In October 2008 the AUA implemented a new evidence-rating system that features the use of methodologist-led systematic reviews , data analysis and summarization, including meta-analysis when feasible , and synthesis procedures that can be qualitative or quantitative, three levels of recommendation (LoR), three levels of evidence (LoE) and the explicit linking of LoR to LoE.

The AUA is proud of its guideline development program and has received favorable feedback on the quality of its clinical practice guidelines.
