AUA Guidelines Development

Looked to as a conceptual leader for how to move the practice of urology forward, the AUA makes a substantial investment in producing guidelines. The association was in the forefront of the movement in the early 1990s to incorporate evidence into guidelines, initiating the conduct of thorough literature reviews, and rigorous data extraction and summarization. In 2008, the AUA took the next step to integrate explicit evidence ratings into its evidence-based processes. This step was timely given that newer frameworks for evaluating evidence quality acknowledge the potential importance of non-randomized controlled trial study data – the type of data typically available in urology.

The AUA is proud of its guideline development program and favorable feedback has been received on the quality of its clinical practice guidelines.
