Policy Title

Delineation of Privileges for Laparoscopic Urological Procedures
The American Urological Association, Inc.® (AUA) recommends that privileges to perform laparoscopic urological procedures be granted by hospitals only to individuals who meet the following criteria.

Individuals who do laparoscopic and/or robotic urological procedures should:

  • Be trained urologists with current proficiency in performance of open urological procedures and in the management of the predictable complications of the operation;
  • Have experience in laparoscopy acquired through previous clinical experience or through instruction; and
  • Have completed an experience in supervised performance of laparoscopic urologic procedures.
