Quality

The Quality Department was formed in response to the increasing emphasis by both the federal government and private insurers on the linking of quality performance measurement to reimbursement. For a relatively small specialty, the AUA is emerging as a leading player in this arena. The AUA has physician and professional staff representatives on every major national decision making body. We have been instrumental in the formulation of urologic-specific measures including prostate cancer measures, which are now included in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS), and are formulating quality measures in concert with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) for stress urinary incontinence.

A team of dedicated physician volunteers make up the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Committee, who along with Quality Department staff, are responsible for establishing the AUA's quality and patient safety agenda and the day-to-day operation of the department.
