Seminal Vesicles

  1. Function: secrete alkaline fluid (containing fructose, fibrinogen, and vitamin C) that contributes to the nutritive and supportive fluid to semen
  2. Histologic features:
    1. pseudostratified epithelial lining
    2. prominent muscular wall arranged into two layers
    3. central lumen is highly irregular, giving a “honeycomb” appearance from low power.
    4. cells may have large atypical nuclei (“monster cells”) with lipofuscin in the cytoplasm -- the presence of golden-yellow pigment in these cells identifies them as a normal structure...
