Rete Testis

  1. Function: receives the luminal contents of the seminiferous tubules and moves it on to the efferent ductules.
  2. Histologic features:
    1. plexiform arrangement of spaces supported by highly vascular collagenous connective tissue
    2. Lined by a single layer of simple squamous or low cuboidal epithelial cells, some of which may possess a flagellum
    3. flagellar activity is presumed to aid the progress of spermatozoa which do not become motile until after maturation is complete in the epididymis.
