Efferent Ductules
Function: reabsorption of fluid
Consist of: 12-15 tubules that arise from the rete testis
Histologic features:
some cells are tall columnar and ciliated, containing brown pigment
Other cells are short and non-ciliated, containing brown pigment
The overall appearance is therefore one of a "sawtooth pattern" of tall cells alternating with short cells
Ciliary activity propels spermatozoa toward the epididymis
A thin band of smooth muscle surrounds each ductule.
