Prostatic Hyperplasia
Clinical presentation: hematuria
Histologic features: three types have been described
Prostatic type (shown) -- small polyps demonstrating typical prostatic-type epithelium; PSA and PAP positive; behavior is benign and recurrence is unusual.
Adenomatoid type -- Looks a lot like a nephrogenic adenoma; behavior is benign, but recurrence is typical.
Adenomatous type -- only a few reported cases; thought to be a forerunner of endometrioid carcinoma of the prostate; resembles hyperplastic endometrium (not that you would know what that looks like!) with columnar cells, deeply eosinophilic cytoplasm, and crowded nuclei; Stains for PSA and PAP are typically positive.
