Prostatic Adenocarcinoma, Gleason’s Grade 2

  1. Nodular growth pattern, but the edges of the nodule are a little bit “looser” than those seen in grade 1
  2. Glands are not quite as uniform as in grade 1, but still tend to be a little on the larger side (like grade 1)
  3. Nucleoli are easily identified and there is abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm
  4. There may be minimal extension of the glands into the adjacent prostatic parenchyma, but no infiltration between normal glands is seen
  5. Rarely seen on needle core biopsies because -- like grade 1 carcinomas -- the grade 2 carcinomas most often involve the transition zone.
