Chromophil Renal Cell Carcinoma

  1. Cytogenetics: Trisomy 7, trisomy 17, loss of Y
  2. Gross: variable, may have a "papillary" or friable cut surface
  3. Histology:
    • cells may be clear or eosinophilic
    • papillary architecture
    • papillae are covered by single layer of neoplastic cells, generally have fibrovascular cores, and often are distended by foamy histiocytes.
    • nuclei are round, small, with a low-grade appearance
