Hemangioma

  1. Usually occurs in adults, women = men
  2. Clinical features: Typically asymptomatic, but may be associated with recurrent hematuria and/ or anemia.
  3. Associations:
    • Klippel-Trenauny syndrome
    • Sturge-Weber Syndrome
  4. Gross pathology: generally solitary, although 10% may be bilateral; spongy red appearance; may affect any part of the kidney, but most often arise in the medulla and renal papillae.
  5. Histologic features:
    • composed of vascular spaces of varying sizes.
    • often has irregular borders
    • no nuclear atypia or mitotic figures.
  6. Behavior: benign.
