Best Practice Statements are consensus-based documents derived from a qualitative review of the literature. Best Practice Statements provide evidence-based guidance that reflects the principles of the urology profession. While literature is reviewed, no data analysis is performed.
AUA policy statements are developed by experts in the field of urology based on a review of the currently available literature and touch on a wide variety of urologic topics.
The AUA maintains official position statements, which may complement AUA Guidelines and Best Practice Statements; however, these should not be confused with these documents.
It is through the Guidelines Department that the AUA produces and disseminates Clinical Practice Guidelines and Best Practice Statements in addition to facilitating the review and approval of guidelines developed by outside organizations.
