Introduction

Welcome to the AUA's Urology Core Curriculum, the most comprehensive reference guide available detailing the knowledge necessary to deliver quality urological care. Divided into more than 50 specialized sections, this Core Curriculum covers the depth and breadth of urology. Its on-line reference guide links to the most up-to-date and scientific resources available, including clinical guidelines, textbooks, scientific articles, videos, simulations, interactive websites and more. The origin of this Core Curriculum began in 2006 when the AUA sponsored a broad-based strategic planning meeting to define the ideal "future state" of urological education. For details on the development of the Core Curriculum and the more than 160 authors, click here.

Each urological topic is divided into subject areas, and provides section objectives, learner objectives, related content, prerequisites, and references. In outline format and through links to the latest scientific and clinical resources, each section summarizes the minimum core knowledge a resident should master about each subject area during residency.  For U.S. urologists, the Core Curriculum provides the knowledge base upon which certification and recertification exams of the American Board of Urology (ABU) will be based in the future. No matter where you live and work, this Core Curriculum allows practicing urologists and other health care professionals to access the latest information concerning a particular clinical problem they are facing in their practice.

All AUA members have free access to the AUA Urology Core Curriculum. As a result of AUA membership, members will also have free access to references from The Journal of Urology® and other leading urology publications.

AUA members and non-AUA member subscribers to the Core Curriculum will be able to access links to AUA publications and products such as AUA videos, AUA Update Series, and related textbooks. However, users will need to utilize their personal subscriptions or purchase subscriptions when prompted via links to materials such as Campbell's Urology and other textbooks and peer-reviewed journals that do not provide free online access to non-subscribers.

The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc. (AUAER) provides this on-line resource as a lifelong, continually expanding learning tool for medical professionals practicing in the field of urology. The Core Curriculum is a "living" resource that will be kept current with frequent updates so users can be assured they are participating in a rich and growing educational program.
