All around the world, more and more AUA members have turned to e-mail and the Internet to get the most up-to-date information in the fastest way possible. To better meet your needs for this information, the AUA in recent years has been utilizing e-mail as one of the ways we communicate with our members. In 2005, the AUA will expand its electronic information stream to include a series of e-mail newsletters specific to the issues you care about most: continuing medical education, advocacy, research, industry relations, practice management, annual meeting information and association news. We understand that not all members want regular news on every issue affecting urology. To choose which e-newsletters you wish to receive, personalize your member profile by visiting www.AUAnet.org.

However, with the prevalence of widespread electronic junk mail ("SPAM") and improved e-mail filtering software, how can you ensure that you're getting all of the e-mails you want from the AUA?

Check your SPAM filter. Most e-mail providers offer some level of filtering to clients. These filters are designed to isolate marketing pitches, pornography and virus-containing messages. Given the nature of urology, some messages can get tangled up in these filters. In some cases, single words like "penis" or "erectile dysfunction" can flag a message. If your service provider offers a junk mail folder or quarantine report, be sure to review it regularly for messages from the AUA. Many systems allow you to release messages from this folder (which allows you to view them), and even to add senders of these messages to your "White List" (see below).

Expand your "White List." Some e-mail providers - such as Hotmail - allow you to add specific e-mail addresses to what's referred to as a "White List." Messages from addresses on your White List are always routed to your inbox - no matter what words they contain.

If you still suspect that you are not getting all of your messages from the AUA, contact your network administrator or e-mail service provider.
