Davi Abe, MD

Davi Abe, MD
2015 AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Davi Abe, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia (SBU) Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Abe is the chief of Lithiasis group at the Santa Marcelina Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil.

Dr. Abe received his medical degree from the University of São Paulo School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Urology and Nephrology Institute in Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Brazil. Dr. Abe has intense participation at Brazilian Urological Society and he has experience with Flexible Ureteroscopy and PCNL in his clinical practice. He intends to improve his skills in endourology and laparoscopy/ robotics.

As part of the AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Abe will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Following the conference, Dr. Abe will visit Cleveland Clinic, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Francois Audenet, MD

Francois Audenet, MD
2015 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Francois Audenet, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/European Association of Urology Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Audenet is an Assistant Professor of the Urology Department at Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou, in Paris, France.

Dr. Audenet received his medical degree from Université Pierre et Marie Curie – Faculté de Médecine in Paris and completed his residency at University Hospitals of Paris. He is mostly dedicated to urological oncology and minimally invasive surgical techniques, performing clinical, research and teaching duties at his Institution. Dr. Audenet has published more than 45 peer reviewed research papers and reviews paper submissions for several urological papers.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Audenet will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Prior to the conference, Dr. Audenet will visit the University of Texas, Southwestern, the University of Miami, and Wake Forest University Medical Centers, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Benjamin Canales, MD, MPH

Benjamin Canales, MD, MPH
2015 AUA/JUA Exchange Program Scholar

Benjamin Canales MD, MPH has been named the 2015 AUA/Japanese Urological Association (JUA) Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Canales is Assistant Professor at the University of Florida Department of Urology and Co-Director for the Endourology/Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship Training Program.

Dr. Canales received his medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans. He completed urology residency and a combined AUA Foundation Research Scholar/Minimally Invasive Urology Fellowship at the University of Minnesota with a special focus on the basic science mechanisms involved in kidney stone formation. With NIH funding, he has created a hyperoxaluric animal model of bariatric surgery and is developing strategies for stone dissolution and prevention. He was a recipient of the 2011 – 2015 Urology Care Foundation/Astellas Rising Star in Urology Award and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 8 book chapters. In addition to leading the urology stone service at one of busiest kidney stone VA programs in the country, he performs minimally invasive surgery for renal tumors and obstruction, including laparoscopic nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, and pyeloplasty.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Canales will attend the 2015 JUA Annual Meeting in Kanazawa, Japan. Following the conference, Dr. Canales will visit Nagoya City Medical Center, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Jakub Dobruch, MD

Jakub Dobruch, MD
2015 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Jakub Dobruch, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/European Association of Urology Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Dobruch is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Urology at the Centre of Postgraduate Medical Education in Warsaw, Poland.

Dr. Dobruch received his medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland and completed his residency at the Centre of Postgraduate Medical Education. His main urological interests remain minimally invasive endoscopic surgery. He has devoted recent research to the value of pelvic lymphadenectomy as an adjunct to laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. In the majority his professional experience involves pelvic endoscopic surgery.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Dobruch will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Yasuhito Funahashi, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/Japanese Urological Association Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Funahashi is an Assistant Professor at Department of Urology, Nagoya University Hospital.

Dr. Funahashi received his medical degree from the Nagoya University School of Medicine, Japan, and completed his residency at the Kariya General Hospital, Japan. He studied basic research of the lower urinary tract dysfunction at University of Pittsburgh and got published several works. He also performs laparoscopic and robotic surgeries.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Funahashi will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Prior to the conference, Dr. Funahashi will visit the MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Katherine Henriquez, MD

Katherine Henriquez, MD
2015 AUA Visiting Scholar

Katherine Henriquez, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA Visiting Scholar. Dr. Henriquez is a young urologist consultant and surgeon at the Metropolitan Complex Hospital Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid in Panama City.

Dr. Henriquez received her medical degree from the University of Panama, where she also completed her residency. She has been urologist assistant in Urology Oncology at Fundació Puigvert in Barcelona, Spain and completed a Laparoscopic and Robotic Assisted Surgery Training Course at Heilbronn, Germany. Dr. Henriquez main clinical and research interests are focused in the minimally invasive surgery for lithiasis, tumors and reconstruction in the urinary tract.

As part of the AUA Visiting Scholar Program, Dr. Henriquez will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Prior to the conference, Dr. Henriquez will visit the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where she will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

2015 AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Ming Liu, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/Chinese Urological Association Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Liu is a Deputy Director of the Urology Department at the Beijing Hospital in Beijing, China.

Dr. Liu received his medical degree from Beijing Medical University and completed his residency at Beijing Hospital. He specializes in minimal invasive treatment of urological tumor and BPH. His main research interests are focused on the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.

As part of the AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Liu will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Following the conference, Dr. Liu will visit the Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

2015 AUA/Mexican Visiting Program Scholar

Carlos Martinez, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/Mexican Visiting Program Scholar. Dr. Martinez is an Associate Professor at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).

Dr. Martinez received his medical degree from UNAM and completed his residency at the General Hospital Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez in Mexico City. Dr. Martinez is certified by the Mexican National Council of Urology (Board) and is a member of the Mexican Society of Urology AC. He has performed endourology and laparoscopic procedures, and with the arrival of the Da Vinci system to Dr. Martinez's location of service, Dr. Martinez wishes to create an international fellowship program in Mexico City for laparoscopic, endourology and robotic surgery.

As part of the AUA/Mexican Visiting Scholar Program, Dr. Martinez will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Tobias Maurer, MD

Tobias Maurer, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/European Association of Urology Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Maurer is an Assistant Professor at the Urologische Klinik und Poliklinik of the Technische Universität München (TUM), Klinikum rechts der Isar, Germany.

Dr. Maurer received his medical degree from the TUM Medical School in Munich, Germany, and completed his residency at the Urologische Klinik und Poliklinik of the Technische Universität München, Klinikum rechts der Isar. His main clinical practice is focused on surgical and medical treatment in urological cancers. Currently, his research activities concentrate on PSMA (prostate specific membrane antigen) based PET hybrid-imaging for the detection and staging in prostate cancer as well as PSMA-radioguided surgery. Dr. Maurer has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and received prizes for presentations at national and international meetings.

2015 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program Scholar

Ravimohan Mavuduru, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/ Indian American Urological Association Chakrobortty Fellowship Scholar. Dr. Mavuduru is an Assistant Professor at the Postgraduate institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India.

Dr. Mavuduru received his medical degree from Govt. Medical College, Nagpur, Maharashtra and completed his residency at PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. Dr Mavuduru has several publications in the peer reviewed journals and was awarded the prestigious European Urology fellowship and the Japanese Urological Association Fellowship in 2014 and 2013 respectively. He is reviewer of four Journals and has various ongoing projects in bladder cancer.

As part of the AUA/ IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program, Dr. Mavuduru will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Following the conference, Dr. Mavuduru will visit the Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Tereza Melo, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia (SBU) Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Melo is a urologic surgeon at the Hospital Universitário Presidente Dutra of Universidade Federal do Maranhão.

Dr. Melo received her medical degree from the Universidade Federal do Maranhão in Sao Luis, Brazil, and completed her residency at the Hospital de Base do Distrito Federal, Brazil. She takes part of the Kidney Transplantation Staff from Public Health University' Hospital. Her clinical practice is focused in pediatric urology and wishes to deepen her knowledge in this field.

As part of the AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Melo will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Following the conference, Dr. Melo will visit Indiana University Medical Center, where she will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Tohru Nakagawa, MD, PhD, has been named a 2015 AUA/Japanese Urological Association Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Nakagawa is an Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo Hospital in Japan.

Dr. Nakagawa received his medical degree from the University of Tokyo and completed his residency at the National Cancer Center Hospital, Japan. With the accomplishments in the basic research on the epigenetic alterations of urothelial cancer, Dr. Nakagawa received his PhD degree from the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Medicine. His specialty is urological oncology, specifically urothelial cancer. Dr. Nakagawa’s current interests focus on the outcomes of radical cystectomy and nephroureterectomy, and improvement of surgical therapy for advanced cancers.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Nakagawa will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Prior to the conference, Dr. Nakagawa will visit the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Balagopal Nair Tiyadath, MD, has been named a 2015 AUA/Indian American Urological Association Chakrobortty Fellowship Scholar. Dr. Tiyadath is a Clinical Associate Professor in Urology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre (Kochi, Kerala, India).

Dr. Tiyadath received his medical degrees from Ravindra Nath Tagore Medical College (Udaipur, Rajasthan) and completed his residency in Urology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre and continued as a faculty there. His special area of interest is Pediatric, reconstructive urology and renal transplantation. He has publications in indexed journal and is a reviewer for medical journals.

As part of the AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program, Dr. Tiyadath will attend the 2015 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Prior to the conference, Dr. Tiyadath will visit the Cincinnati Childrens Hospital and Medical Centre, Ohio, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.
