Giovanni Cacciamani, MD

Giovanni Cacciamani, MD
2016 AUA/Societa Italiana di Urologia (SIU) Fellowship Program

Giovanni Cacciamani, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/Società Italiana di Urologia (SIU) Fellow. Dr. Cacciamani is a Resident at the Urology Clinic with the University of Verona, Italy (Chief Prof. Walter Artibani).

Dr. Cacciamani received his medical degree from the University of Verona, School of Medicine, and has intense participation at SIU, as a member of the Residents Society of SIU. His main urological interests remain minimally invasive endoscopic and robotic surgery, and development of new technology in urology. Dr. Cacciamani is also an instructor for the robotic courses. Dr. Cacciamani intends to improve his skills in endourology, laparoscopy and robotics, and to develop new surgical techniques improving functional and oncological outcomes.

As part of the AUA/SIU Fellowship Program, Dr. Cacciamani will complete a urology fellowship, focusing on Robotic Surgery, at the University of Southern California (USC).

Marcos Cepeda Delgado, MD, PhD, FEBU
2016 AUA/Confederacion Americana de Urologia (CAU) Visiting Program Scholar

Marcos Cepeda Delgado, MD, PhD, FEBU, has been named a 2016 AUA/CAU Visiting Program Scholar. Dr. Cepeda is Senior Urologist at the Río Hortega University Hospital (HURH) in Valladolid, Spain. He received his medical degree from the University of Valladolid, where he also completed his residency and obtained his PhD as Urology Surgeon in 2009. He trained in laparoscopy, PCNL and RIRS in Europe.

He obtained his FEBU in 2013. He has focused his career on minimally invasive surgery for renal stones and laparoscopic oncology. He is an active member of the Spanish Urology Association where he gives specialized training courses to surgeons interested in his field. He participates in international meetings and multicenter research studies. He also organizes live surgery courses at the HURH to train urologists in PCNL, RIRS and ECIRS.

For the program, Dr. Cepeda will visit Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Vito Cucchiara, MD

Vito Cucchiara, MD
2016 AUA/Societa Italiana di Urologia (SIU) Fellowship Program

Vito Cucchiara, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/SIU Fellow. Dr. Cucchiara is a Resident at University of Naples Federico II, Italy, and he received his medical degree at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.

Since 2012, Dr. Cucchiara has been involved in collaborative pre- and clinical research projects at Urological Research Institute (URI), San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. Currently, he participates in clinical activities and research programs at the Department of Urology, Federico II University Hospital in Naples, Italy. Dr. Cucchiara also has worked on genetics, biology and experimental treatments of prostate and bladder cancer, and presented as speaker at the National and International Conferences and authored a number of articles in index journals.

As part of the AUA/SIU Fellowship Program, Dr. Cucchiara will complete a urology fellowship, focusing on Urologic Surgical Oncology, at the University of California - Davis.

Ithaar H. Derweesh, MD

Ithaar H. Derweesh, MD
2016 AUA/European Association of Urology (EAU) Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Ithaar Derweesh, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Derweesh is a Professor of Surgery in the Department of Urology at the UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Derweesh received his medical degree from the University of Chicago and completed his residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Derweesh subspecializes in Urologic Oncology with a focus on Renal Cell Carcinoma. He currently serves as the Program Director for the Urologic Oncology Fellowship at UC San Diego. Dr. Derweesh has more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the AUA and NCCN Guideline Panels on Kidney Cancer.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Derweesh attended the 2016 EAU Annual Meeting in Munich, Germany. Prior to the conference, Dr. Derweesh visited Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (UK), UZ Leuven (Belgium), University Vita -Salute San Raffaele (Italy), and LMU-Klinikum der Universität München (Germany) where he had the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Tarun Javali, MD

Tarun Javali, MD
2016 AUA/Indian American Urological Association (IAUA) Chakrobortty Fellowship Program Scholar

Tarun Javali, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program Scholar. Dr. Javali is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the M.S. Ramaiah Medical College and Hospital in Bangalore, India.

Dr. Javali received his medical degree at the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (J.I.P.M.E.R.) at Pondicherry University, and completed his urology residency at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (A.I.I.M.S.). He later completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Renal Transplant Surgery at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (S.G.P.G.I.M.S.). He has several publications in national and international journals and has been a recipient of best paper awards at national conferences. His areas of interest include uro-oncology, renal transplantation and reconstructive urology. He has several ongoing clinical and research projects in the field of non-invasive urodynamics, buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty and pediatric PCNL.

As part of the AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program, Dr. Javali will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. Prior to the conference, Dr. Javali will visit the University of Minnesota Medical Center, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Rose Khavari, MD

Rose Khavari, MD
2016 AUA/European Association of Urology (EAU) Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Rose Khavari, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Khavari is the Director of Research for Restorative Pelvic Medicine and Clinical Directory Neurourology and Transitional Urology Clinic at the Houston Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Khavari received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch and completed her Urology residency at the Baylor College of Medicine. Furthermore, she received advanced fellowship training in male and female continence, pelvic floor reconstructive surgery, and neurourology at Houston Methodist Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. In October 2015, Dr. Khavari, a KURe K12 scholar, was selected as the first scholar to the “Houston Methodist Clinician-Scientist program” for her proposed work in neurology and as a result of her clinical and research accomplishments.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Khavari attended the 2016 EAU Annual Meeting in Munich, Germany. Prior to the conference, Dr. Khavari visited Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (UK), UZ Leuven (Belgium), University Vita -Salute San Raffaele (Italy), and LMU-Klinikum der Universität München (Germany) where she had the opportunity to collaborate on research opportunities, observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Edgar Linden Castro, MD

Edgar Linden Castro, MD
2016 AUA/Mexican Visiting Program Scholar

Edgar Linden Castro, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/Mexican Visiting Program Scholar. Dr. Linden is affiliated with the Universidad National Autonoma de Mexico, in Mexico City, as a Uro-Oncology Fellow in the Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia in Mexico City.

Dr. Linden received his medical degree from Juarez University, and completed his residency at Universidad National Autonoma de Mexico. His area of clinical expertise is the surgical treatment of genitourinary cancers, with a particular emphasis on bladder cáncer, BCG therapy and prostate cancer.

Dr. Linden’s research has a special focus in surgical quality, and the quality and improvement in the life of his patients with genitourinary malignancies.

As part of the AUA/Mexican Visiting Scholar Program, Dr. Linden will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. Prior to the conference, Dr. Linden will visit the University of Miami, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Sean P. Stroup, MD

Sean P. Stroup, MD
2016 AUA/European Association of Urology (EAU) Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Sean Stroup, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Stroup is the Director of Urologic Oncology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California.

Dr. Stroup received his medical degree at Loyola University Chicago. He then completed residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego and a SUO Fellowship in Urologic Oncology at University of California, San Diego. Dr. Stroup is an active researcher with over 50 publications, co-authored the AUA Core Curriculum for Testicular Cancer, and is on the AUA Working Group for Prostate Biopsy Complications. He serves as Chair of the AUA Young Urologists Committee and was selected for the 2016-2017 AUA Leadership Program.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Stroup attended the 2016 EAU Annual Meeting in Munich, Germany. Prior to the conference, Dr. Stroup visited Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (UK), UZ Leuven (Belgium), University Vita -Salute San Raffaele (Italy), and LMU-Klinikum der Universität München (Germany) where he had the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Sayuri Takahashi, MD

Sayuri Takahashi, MD
2016 AUA/Japanese Urological Association (JUA) Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Sayuri Takahashi, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Takahashi is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Tokyo, Japan.

Dr. Takahashi received her medical degree at Hirosaki University and completed her residency at Mitsui Memorial Hospital and the University of Tokyo. She is a clinical oncological specialist registered by the Japanese Clinical Oncological Association, and certified laparoscopic surgeon. After she received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo, she researched prostate cancer at Johns Hopkins University from 2011 to 2012. She received the 101th JUA annual meeting award, the 8th young research grant by the JUA, the award of Japanese foundation for prostate research, and the EAU Best Poster Award.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Takahashi will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. After the conference, Dr. Takahashi will visit the University of Southern California Medical Center, where she will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Pawan Vasudeva, MD

2016 AUA/Indian American Urological Association (IAUA) Chakrobortty Fellowship Program Scholar

Pawan Vasudeva, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program Scholar. Dr. Vasudeva is an Associate Professor of Urology at the Vardhman Mahaveer Medical College and Safdarjang Hospital, in New Delhi, India.

Dr. Vasudeva received his medical degree at the Himachal Pradesh University, and completed his residency at the King George Medical University, Lucknow. He was awarded the prestigious European Urology fellowship and the Japanese Urological Association fellowship in 2012 and 2016, respectively. He has more than 40 peer reviewed publications to his credit and is a reviewer for medical journals. Dr Vasudeva has a special interest in Functional urology and Neurourology and is a committee member of the Neuro Urology promotion committee of the International Continence Society.

As part of the AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program, Dr. Vasudeva will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. After the conference, Dr. Vasudeva will visit the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Leandro Viecili, MD

2016 AUA/Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia (SBU) Visiting Program Scholar

Leandro Viecili, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/SBU Visiting Program Scholar. Dr. Viecili is a Staff Physician Urologist at Hospital Regional do Oeste (a public service) also in Hospital Unimed (a private/health insurance service) in Chapecó, Brazil.

Dr. Viecili received his medical degree at the Universidade Regional de Blumenau and completed his residency at the Hospital Governador Celso Ramos in Florianopolis. After this, Dr. Viecili spent a year of Post-Graduation in Urology at the Hospital Beneficência Portuguesa of São Paulo. In his practice, he performs surgeries, clinics, and remains on call at his institutions. He is also particularly interested in endourological and minimal invasive procedures.

As part of the AUA/ SBU Visiting Scholar Program, Dr. Viecili will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. After the conference, Dr. Viecili will visit North Shore/Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries focused in minimally invasive therapy, thus he wishes to deepen his knowledge in this field.

2016 AUA/Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia (SBU) Visiting Program Scholar

Arthur Vieira, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/SBU Visiting Program Scholar. Dr. Vieira is a Staff Physician Urologist at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Maceió - SCMM (Mercy Hospital) in Brazil.

Dr. Vieira received his medical degree at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) in Maceio, Brazil and completed his residency at the Instituto de Previdencia dos Servidores do Estado de Minas Gerais (IPSEMG) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Dr. Vieira performed a clinical fellowship in endourology and laparoscopy at Instituto de Medicina Integral Prof. Fernando Figueira - IMIP, Recife, Brazil. Dr. Vieira focuses his daily routine in laparoscopic procedures for cancer and urological research in laparoscopy. Currently, his main goal is in robotic surgery in urology.

As part of the AUA/SBU Visiting Scholar Program, Dr. Vieira will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. After the conference, Dr. Vieira will visit the Cleveland Clinic, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Yoshiaki Yamamoto, MD

2016 AUA/Japanese Urological Association (JUA) Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Yoshiaki Yamamoto, MD, has been named a 2016 AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Yamamoto is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the Yamaguchi University School of Medicine, where he also received his medical degree and completed his residency. He specializes in the surgical and multidisciplinary care of patients with urologic cancers, performing clinical research and teaching duties at his institution. He is also active in areas of basic urologic research.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Yamamoto will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. After the conference, Dr. Yamamoto will visit Mt. Sinai hospital in New York City, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.

Yu Zeng, MD & Ph.D

Yu Zeng, MD & Ph.D
2016 AUA/Chinese Urological Association (CUA) Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Yu Zeng, MD & Ph.D, has been named a 2016 AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Zeng is a Professor of Urology at The First Hospital of China Medical University in Shenyang, China.

Dr. Zeng received his medical degree at the China Medical University and completed his residency at Liaoning Tumor Hospital in Shenyang, China. He has completed many important clinical and basic research works on urological cancer research, particularly on prostate cancer and published several important peer-reviewed articles in the international-circulating journals, like Cancer Res and J Bio Chem. His clinical interest is on the laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, for example the radical prostectomy. In addition, he is the PI of several projects that were granted by the Chinese Natural Scientific Foundation in studying basic and translational research on prostate cancer.

As part of the AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Zeng will attend the 2016 AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. Prior to the conference, Dr. Zeng will visit Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, as well as attend staff activities and clinics.
