Active Membership
Urologists actively practicing in the U.S., Canada, Mexico or Central America who are board certified are welcome to apply for joint membership in the AUA and AUA Section. Doctors of Osteopathy who have been trained in an ACGME Residency Program may apply for Active membership. Active members are elected first by their Section and then by the AUA.
To join:
- Complete the entire application.
- Your application will be forwarded to your AUA Section, at which time you will be contacted to submit the following items directly to them:
- A copy of your curriculum vitae;
- Application fee (fees vary by Section);
- Proof of board certification (only applicable to those applying for Active membership who are board certified by an organization other than the American Board of Urology or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada);
- Submit all materials in English, typed or printed clearly.
Associate Membership
Urologists actively practicing in the U.S., Canada, Mexico or Central America who are not board certified are welcome to apply for membership in the AUA. Associate members are elected first by their Section and then by the AUA.
To join:
- Complete the entire application.
- Your application will be forwarded to your AUA Section, at which time you will be contacted to submit the following items directly to them:
- A copy of your curriculum vitae;
- Application fee (fees vary by Section);
- Submit all materials in English, typed or printed clearly.
International Membership
Urologists practicing outside the U.S., Canada, Mexico or Central America who are actively practicing urology for at least two years after completing training and are members of their national urological society are eligible for International Membership. Now completing your application is easier than ever! Only one endorsement letter is now required!
To join:
- Complete the entire application.
- Submit $50 (U.S. Dollars) application fee.
- Submit the following documents in English, typed or printed clearly on letterhead:
- A copy of your curriculum vitae;
- New! One (1) letter of endorsement from an AUA member attesting to your moral, ethical and professional competence;
- Letter from the national urological association in your country confirming your membership;
- Letter from the hospital in which you perform at least 50% of your surgical cases confirming the length of time you have been a member of the hospital staff and attesting to your moral, ethical and professional competence.
Note: The letter from your national urological association or from your hospital may also serve as your endorsement letter as long as the author is an AUA Member and can attest to your moral, ethical and professional competence.
Affiliate Membership
Researchers, scientists, non-urologist MD's or Doctors of Osteopathy who are significantly contributing to the field of urology are welcome as members of the AUA.
To join:
- Complete the entire application.
- Submit $50 (U.S. dollars) application fee.
- Submit a copy of your curriculum vitae.
- Submit the following documents in English, typed or printed clearly on letterhead:
- Two (2) letters of endorsement from AUA voting (Active or Senior) members attesting to your moral, ethical and professional competence.
- A personal statement describing your significant contributions to the specialty of urology and the reason why you are interested in joining the AUA.
Allied Membership
Allied members are urology health care professionals that are primary team members providing urologic patient care. This category includes nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians and medical assistants.
To join:
All Allied Membership applicants must:
- Complete the entire application.
- Submit $50 (U.S. dollars) application fee.
- Submit two (2) letters of endorsement from AUA voting members (Active or Senior) attesting to your moral, ethical and professional competence.
- Submit a copy of your curriculum vitae or résumé.
Additional requirements apply as follows:
LPN/LVN/RN/NP/CNS/PA
- Submit a copy of your current medical license(s).
- Submit a letter written by your direct supervisor on letterhead confirming that you have at least one year of experience in the field of urology and have devoted at least 50% of your professional time to urologic care.
Advanced Practice Professionals (PA, NP, CNS)
- Submit a copy of your current medical license(s).
- Submit a letter written by your direct supervisor on letterhead confirming that you have at least one year of experience in the field of urology and have devoted at least 50% of your professional time to urologic care.
- Submit written evidence that you are recognized by the appropriate state board of nursing as a nurse practitioner and/or clinical nurse specialist and that you have a master’s degree in nursing.
Technicians
- Submit a letter written by a practicing urologist on letterhead confirming you have completed at least three years of in-service training in the field of urology under their supervision.
Medical Assistants
- Submit written evidence of your current CMA certification.
- Submit a letter written by your direct supervisor on letterhead confirming that you have at least one year of experience in the field of urology and have devoted at least 50% of your professional time to urologic care.
Candidate Membership
As a resident enrolled in an ACGME-accredited urology training program in the U.S., Canada or Mexico, you have access to the major benefits of Active Membership at a fraction of the cost as a Candidate member. A key benefit is The Journal of Urology®. Upon completion of your application, you will have on line access to The Journal of Urology® and will then begin receiving the hard copy. Candidate members are approved by the Board of Directors three times a year.
To join:
- Complete the entire application.
- Submit $50 (U.S. dollars) application fee.
- If requested, submit a letter signed by your residency program director on letterhead confirming you are a resident in good standing and your expected graduation date.
- Submit all materials in English, typed or printed clearly.
Note: Residency verification will be required.
International Residents-in-training Membership
This membership category includes residents enrolled in an accredited urology residency training program outside of the AUA Section boundaries. International Residents-in-Training have access to the major benefits of International Membership at a discounted rate.
To join:

- Submit $50 (U.S. dollars) application fee.
- Submit a letter signed by your residency program director on letterhead confirming you are a resident in good standing and your expected graduation date.
- Submit all materials in English, typed or printed clearly.
