The 2009 American Urological Association (AUA)/Society for Basic Urology Research (SBUR) Summer Research Conference, “Decreasing Mortality from Bladder Cancer over the Next Decade” [pdf] was held August 7 – 8 at the AUA Headquarters in Linthicum, Maryland. The Program Chairs were Dan Theodorescu, MD, PhD, and David McConkey, MD.
This conference provided a comprehensive review of the major scientific and clinical issues that are uniquely relevant to urothelial cancer. The program covered a full spectrum of topics, including efforts to improve risk assessment and early detection, molecular classification of disease subsets, and genomic approaches to match tumor biology to effective therapy. The program also featured poster displays and talks from National Institutes of Health (NIH) training officers on career development and funding opportunities.
