DoD PRCRP Funding: Webinar for Bladder and Kidney Cancer Researchers
Thanks to the advocacy efforts of the AUA and its partner organizations, bladder cancer was officially added to the list of eligible research topics to compete for federal funding in Fiscal Year 2016 (FY16). This funding falls under the Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP) and is one of several programs sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). This is a victory for urologic research and will be the first time in the CDMRP’s 23-year history that bladder cancer research will be specifically funded. The FY16 PRCRP is funded at $50 million and supports a total of 13 topic areas including other urologic diseases such as kidney cancer.

To assist urologic researchers navigate this newly expanded line of funding, the AUA hosted an informal webinar led by Dr. Donna M. Kimbark, PRCRP Program Manager. Her presentation covered the vision and mission of the PRCRP, an introduction to the Congressional language, topics and focus areas, as well as the current funding opportunities offered through the PRCRP.
