The American Urological Association (AUA) Office of Research encourages researchers to review the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website for funding opportunities, including the Merit Award and the Research Career Development Award.

VA Merit Award
The Merit Review Award Program is an intramural funding mechanism to support investigator-initiated research conducted by eligible VA investigators at VA medical centers or VA-approved sites. Licensed clinicians must have a VA-paid clinical appointment of at least 5/8ths time to receive funding. Non-clinicians must become eligible to receive VA funding, and, if funded, must become a VA employee. Current VA employees must still apply for eligibility. More information can be found here.
Research Career Development Award
This award provides support for biomedical, clinical, rehabilitation and health services research. The goal is to attract new investigators to the VA system.
The 5/8ths VA appointment not required for this award. There are various levels to this award open to both clinicians and non-clinicians, as well as senior VA scientists, to learn new research skills. More information can be found here.
