The preponderance of urologic research is funded through federal and state governments and the philanthropy of private foundations and nonprofit organizations. The competition for these limited funds is extremely intense. Many projects are funded through a series of grants, thus young scientists and senior researchers may experience gaps in funding while awaiting peer review and/or approval for a new grant to support the next phase of research.
Part of the mission of the Urology Care Foundation is to expand and support research in urologic diseases. Thanks to the generosity of Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the Urology Care Foundation is proud to offer the Urology Care Foundation/Ferring Pharmaceuticals Urology Research Success Award in Prostate Cancer Research. The award will provide up to $10,000 to assist a urology researcher in continuing vital urology research efforts while awaiting new funding. Research supported by this award ultimately will contribute to helping those who suffer from the effects of prostate cancer.
The Applicant must have competed for peer-reviewed external funding for the project during the period of October 1, 2011, to December 31, 2012. The application must have been either: 1) approved for funding and the investigator is awaiting receipt of those funds, or 2) reviewed and scored, but not funded. In the case where the application was not funded, the awardee is required to reapply for external funding. The application deadline is July 15, 2013.
