Xiaolin Zi, MDUniversity of California, Irvine
The Urology Care Foundation is pleased to announce the winner of the 2013 Urology Care Foundation/Ferring Pharmaceuticals Urology Research Success Award in Prostate Cancer Research. Dr. Xiaolin Zi, at the University of California, Irvine will receive $10,000 in "bridge" funding to assist his research project, "DeNEDDylation and Skp2 Degradation by Flavokawain A (FKA) in Prostate Cancer."
The preponderance of urologic research is funded through federal and state governments and the philanthropy of private foundations and nonprofit organizations. The competition for these limited funds is extremely intense. Many projects are funded through a series of grants, thus young scientists and senior researchers may experience gaps in funding while awaiting peer review and/or approval for a new grant to support the next phase of research. Part of the mission of the Urology Care Foundation is to expand and support research in urologic diseases. Thanks to the generosity of Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the Urology Care Foundation/Ferring Pharmaceuticals Urology Research Success Award in Prostate Cancer Research will provide Dr. Zi with critical funding while he awaits new funding from the National Institutes of Health.
