Dr. Johannes Vieweg
AUA Research Council Chair: Dr. Johannes Vieweg
Dr. Johannes Vieweg was unanimously selected by the American Urological Association (AUA) Board of Directors at its October 2010 meeting to serve as the Research Council Chair. Dr. Vieweg provides strategic oversight to the Research Council and its leadership research activities, and serves as an expert advisor to the AUA Office of Research. He also serves as a liaison to federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the Veterans Health Administration and the Department of Defense. The chair of the Research Council oversees the various Research Council workgroups and helps coordinate and implement quality research activities.
Dr. Vieweg currently serves as professor and chair of the Department of Urology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He also is the executive director of the University of Florida Prostate Disease Center and the program leader of the University’s Experimental Therapeutics Program. Dr. Vieweg completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Genetic and Cellular Therapies and his urology residency training at Duke University. Dr. Vieweg is interested in applied genetics and immunology research. He has received extensive funding at the national level and has served on multiple National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute grant review panels.
In executing responsibilities, the Chair of Research reports to the Board of Directors, chairs the Research Council and Research Grant Review Committee and oversees the various Research Council workgroups. The Chair works in a mutually effective and collaborative manner with the AUA Executive Director, Board of Directors and Director of the Office of Research to help coordinate and implement research activities.
