Choosing Wisely

In 2013, the American Urological Association (AUA) joined the Choosing Wisely® campaign, releasing a list of specific tests or procedures that are commonly ordered but not always necessary in urology as part of the Choosing Wisely® campaign, an initiative of the ABIM Foundation. In 2015, the AUA expanded its list with an additional five recommendations. The full list identifies targeted, evidence-based recommendations that can support conversations between patients and physicians about what care is really necessary.

Nominations Now Open for AUA Choosing Wisely Champions

Submit your recommendations for the AUA's new Choosing Wisely Champions program. This new venture highlights the work of those who advance the ideals of Choosing Wisely. Nominees may work with the AUA's 10 Choosing Wisely items or the related patient guides as well as those of any other societies' Choosing Wisely lists. The goal of Choosing Wisely Champions is not only to showcase the work of the nominees, but also to publicize these efforts so that they may serve as an incentive to others to either mirror these actions or spur new ideas.

Urologists and members of the urology care team are invited to explain how they became involved with Choosing Wisely as well as their efforts with this program. Nominations can pertain to clinical practice or research and can apply to patients, other healthcare professionals or both.

Selection of AUA Choosing Wisely Champions will be made by the AUA Choosing Wisely workgroup.
