At the May 2011 American Urological Association (AUA) Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Committee meeting, committee members noted increased reports of sepsis and infectious complications after prostate needle biopsies. The Committee decided that the AUA should respond by forming a workgroup, made up of members of the QIPS Committee along with Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) representatives, to draft a white paper.
Members of the workgroup included Chris M. Gonzalez, MD, MBA, Timothy Averch, MD, Lee Ann Boyd, MSN, ARNP, CUNP, J. Quentin Clemens, MD, MSCI, Robert Dowling, MD, Howard B. Goldman, MD, Danil V. Makarov, MD, MHS, Vic Senese, RN, Mary Anne Wasner, BSN, CURN.
