Ari Adamy, MD

Ari Adamy, MD
AUA South American Visiting Scholar

Ari Adamy, MD has been named the 2013 AUA South American Visiting Scholar. Dr. Adamy is an attending urologist and coordinator of the Urology Residency Program at Santa Casa Hospital, Pontifícia Universidade Católica -PR.

Dr. Adamy received his medical degree from Santa Catarina Federal University (UFSC), and completed his residency at Santa Casa Hospital, Curitiba, PR. After finishing his urology residency, Dr. Adamy completed an 18-month research fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. His research and clinical interests are focused mainly in urologic oncology, and in this field Dr. Adamy has authored and presented several papers, at both national and international meetings.

As part of the AUA South American Visiting Scholar Program, Dr. Adamy will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

AUA Mexican Visiting Scholar

Mauricio Cantellano, MD, has been named the 2013 AUA Mexican Visiting scholar. Dr. Cantellano is an Associate professor at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico and staff urologist at Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea González SSA (HGDMGG), México DF, México.

Dr. Cantellano received his medical degree from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He completed his residency at Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea González SSA,. He is a member of the Urology Department of HGDMGG and his work focuses in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery, and he is interested in developing a robotic surgery program at HGDMGG.

As part of the AUA Mexican Visiting Scholar Program, Dr. Cantellano will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit Cleveland Clinic, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

George Chow, MD

George Chow, MD
AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program Scholar

George Chow, MD has been named the 2013 AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Chow is an associate professor at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Chow received his medical degree from McGill University. He completed his residency at Cleveland Clinic and completed his endourology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Chow has research interest in surgical robotics and minimally invasive surgery of the kidney.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Chow will attend and participate in the JUA Annual Meeting and will visit Tokai University in Tokyo, Japan, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Christopher Gomez, MD

Christopher Gomez, MD
AUA/USI Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Christopher Gomez, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/USI Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Gomez is an Assistant Professor at The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Gomez received his medical degree and completed his residency at The University of Miami. Dr. Gomez specializes in female urology, voiding dysfunction and reconstructive urology. His areas of research focus on the application of botulinum toxin for the lower urinary tract, evaluation and development of new anti-incontinence implants and the evaluation and reduction of urinary tract infections of spinal cord injury patients.

As part of the AUA/USI Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Gomez attended and participated in the USI Annual Congress and visited The Kulkarni Endo Surgery Institute (Pune) and The Vedanayagam Hospital (Coimbatore) where he had the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures, participate in staff activities and give lectures and didactic sessions with the residents.

AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Johannes Huber, MD, PhD has been named a 2013 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Huber is an assistant professor at the Department of Urology, University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus in Dresden, Germany.

Dr. Huber received his medical degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany. He completed his residency at the Department of Urology, University of Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Huber’s main area of clinical and scientific interest is urologic oncology. He published extensively on different aspects of patient-centered care. Moreover, he worked on renal cell carcinoma and prostate cancer.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Huber will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit the University of Minnesota, Univeristy of California, Los Angeles and University of California, Irvine, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Tianxin Lin, MD

Tianxin Lin, MD
AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Tianxin Lin, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Lin is a full-time professor at Department of Urology, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University.

Dr. Lin received his medical degree from Sun Yat-sen University. He completed his residency at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. Dr. Lin and his mentor Dr. Huang performed the first case of laparoscopic radical cystectomy in China and invented a simple-to –use multichannel single port device for LESS. Dr Lin’s research focuses on the differentiated expression and mechanism of ncRNAs in bladder cancer.

As part of the 2013 AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Lin will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit Mayo Clinic where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Altaf Mangera, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Mangera is a Research fellow at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. Dr. Mangera received his medical degree with Honours from the University of Sheffield. He completed his residency at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. His research interests include functional and reconstructive urology. He completed his MD thesis in tissue engineering of the pelvic floor.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Mangera will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit the University of Minnesota, Univeristy of California, Los Angeles and University of California, Irvine, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Seiji Matsumoto, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Matsumoto is an assistant professor at the Department of Renal and Urological Surgery, Asahikawa Medical University.

Dr. Matsumoto received his medical degree from Kinki University, and completed his residency at Osaka Medical Center and Research Institute for Maternal and Child Health, Osaka Teishin Hospital and Kinki University Hospital. He was a research fellow at the Division of Urology, Albany Medical College and Division of Basic and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Albany College of Pharmacy (Albany, NY) from 2001-2002.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Matsumoto will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit the University of California, San Diego and SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Alex Meller, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Meller is a member of the urology department of Federal University of Sao Paulo at Sao Paulo Hospital.

Dr. Meller received his medical degree from Federal University of Sao Paulo – Paulista School of Medicin (UNIFESP – EPM) and completed his residency at the same institution. After completing his residency, Dr. Meller became a member of the Endourology and Lithiasis group at Urology Department of UNIFESP – EPM. His areas of interest are stone treatment, minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery.

As part of the AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Meller will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego and will visit Denver Health Medical Center, University of Colorado, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Maria Merce Pascual Queralt, MD
AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Maria Merce Pascual Queralt, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Pascual Queralt is a urologist at Hospital Santa Maria and at Hospital Montserrat in Lleida.

Dr. Pascual Queralt received her medical degree from Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona (1997-2003). She completed her residency at Fundacio Puigvert in Barcelona (2004-2009). She has a special interest in laparoscopy, uro-oncology, reconstructive surgery and urinary incontinence. She participates actively with the oncology weekly round in Hospital Santa Maria and also is involved in an investigation project with the pneumology department of her hospital.

As part of the AUA/EAU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Pascual Queralt will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting in San Diego and will visit the University of Minnesota, University of California, Los Angeles and University of California, Irvine where she will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Ashish Rawandale (Patil), MS, MCh, DNB
2013 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellow

Dr. Ashish Rawandale-Patil MS, MCh, DNB has been named a 2013 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellow. Dr. Rawandale-Patil is Professor and Head of Urology at A.C.P.M. Medical College and Director & Chief Urologist at Institute of Urology, Dhule.

A medical graduate and postgraduate from B. J. Medical College, Pune, India, he completed his residency in Urology at Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr. Rawandale focuses on innovations and endourology and has 21 patents, 56 publications, numerous innovation awards and more than a 100 presentations to his name.

As part of the 2013 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program, Dr. Rawandale will attend the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit UT Southwestern, Indiana University and the University of Miami where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries, procedures and also attend staff activities and clinics.

Jaspreet S. Sandhu, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/USI Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Sandhu is an Assistant Professor at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Sandhu received his medical degree from Wake Forest University. He completed his residency at Weill Cornell Medical College. His primary interest is to understand, predict, treat, and prevent voiding dysfunction or urinary incontinence caused by cancer or its treatments, with a focus on the treatment of male and female incontinence, and urinary tract/pelvic reconstruction. Dr. Sandhu also has a strong interest in the surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and voiding dysfunction caused by advanced cancers. He has been active in the Society for Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine, and Urogenital Reconstruction, the American Urological Association, and has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, and book chapters.

As part of the AUA/USI Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Sandhu attended and participated in the USI Annual Congress and visited Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital, Kulkarni Endourology, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and Medanta Medical Center where he had the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Koji Shiraishi, MD

Koji Shiraishi, MD
AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program Scholar

Koji Shiraishi, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Shiraishi is an assistant professor at Department of Urology, Yamaguchi University.

Dr. Shiraishi received his medical degree from Yamaguchi University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Yamaguchi University. He was a postdoc at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Iowa from 2004-2007. His subspecialties are male infertility, sexual medicine and pediatric urology. He has been published in more than 60 peer reviewed publications in this field as the first author and performs around 200 microsurgeries annually.

As part of the AUA/JUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Shiraishi will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit Weill-Cornell Medical Center and Rush University where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Dr. Bhupendra P. Singh has been named a 2013 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellow. Dr. Singh is an Associate Professor at King George’s Medical University, Lucknow.

Dr. Singh graduated from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University and completed his urology residency from T.N. Medical College & BYL Nair Hospital, Mumbai. He has a special interest in minimally invasive urology including laparoscopy/robotics, endourology, uro-oncology and urethroplasties. He has many publications in peer reviewed journals and has been instrumental in developing advanced upper tract laparoscopy, holmium laser prostatectomy and retrograde intrarenal stone surgery at his institution. His current research areas include tubeless percutaneous nephrolithotomy and trace elements in prostate cancer.

As part of the 2013 AUA/IAUA Chakrobortty Fellowship Program, Dr. Singh will attend the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Wake Forest University, University of Southern California and Henry Ford Hospital where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries, procedures and also attend staff activities and clinics.

Gustavo Cavalcanti Wanderley, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program Scholar. Dr. Wanderley is an urologist at Getúlio Vargas Hospital Recife , Brazil and is the Head of Reconstructive Urologic Department of Getúlio Vargas Hospital.

Dr. Wanderley received his medical degree from University Federal of Pernambuco (UFPE). He completed his residency at Clinical Hospital of Federal University of Pernambuco. Dr. Wanderley specializes in reconstructive urology with a clinical interest in urethral reconstruction, male urinary incontinence and female pelvic reconstruction.

As part of the AUA/SBU Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Wanderley will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit UT Southwestern Medical Center where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.

Tie Zhou, MD has been named a 2013 AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program scholar. Dr. Zhou is an associate professor at the second military medical university. He is also the secretary of international communication committee of the Chinese Urological Association.

Dr. Zhou received his medical degree from the second military medical university. He completed his residency at Shanghai Changhai Hospital. He has been trained in endourology, male infertility and laparoscopy. His basic research focus is on prostate cancer and male reproduction. He has published six papers in peer-reviewed journals.

As part of the AUA/CUA Academic Exchange Program, Dr. Zhou will attend and participate in the AUA Annual Meeting and will visit Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he will have the opportunity to observe urologic surgeries and procedures and participate in staff activities.
