P2s: Practice-changing, Paradigm-shifting Clinical Trials in Urology

About the Program

Practice-changing, Paradigm-shifting Clinical Trials in Urology (P2s) are designed to showcase exceptional, groundbreaking studies that are expected to change the day-to-day practice of urology. Reserved for the most impactful studies, P2s will be presented on the Plenary stage, providing the greatest exposure and profile for the research. Results should not have been presented previously at any other meeting.

Eligible Studies

The AUA is looking for studies that address scientific questions of particular interest to urologists. Studies should include primary data using:

1. A randomized clinical trial design (phase II or III trials)
   OR
2. Prospective, observational cohort studies that compare therapies and/or highlight novel and high-impact interventions that will change clinical practice

Retrospective studies, basic science studies, meta-analyses, survey research, and/or case series and reports are NOT appropriate for submission. "Encore" presentations are not eligible for presentation and, while secondary analyses of previously presented trials are eligible for submission, these analyses must truly be new findings and be of substantial significance to be considered for presentation.

The meeting organizers understand that the final results for important phase 3 clinical trials are often not available at the deadline for abstract submission. To this end, "shell" abstracts with data placeholders will be considered but authors should discuss with the AUA Secretary prior to submission. Submission Requirements

Any violation of these policies may subject the submission to rejection or removal from the AUA Annual Meeting.

Standards

Submission of an abstract confirms that all authors agree to its submission and will abide by several key standards to ensure the integrity and scientific quality of educational content:

• Evidence-Based Content:All recommendations for patient care must be grounded in current scientific evidence and clinical reasoning, presenting a balanced view of available options.
• Disclosure of Off-Label Use:Any discussion of off-label or investigational uses must include appropriate disclosures to the audience.
• Clarity on Emerging Topics:When discussing topics with limited or developing evidence, this must be clearly stated.
• Avoidance of Unscientific Practices:Abstracts must not promote practices lacking scientific support or are known to be ineffective or harmful.
• Patient Privacy:All patient identifiers must be removed, and patient images may only be used with written consent.
• No Promotional Content:Materials must be free from ineligible company (i.e. commercial interest) logos or other branding.

The Program Committee has the authority to reject any submission in violation of the stated policies.

Restrictions on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

The AUA requires anyone who is in a position to control the content of an AUA educational activity [e.g. scientific program directors, faculty presenters, speakers, moderators, program planners, contributors, editors, reviewers, and presenting authors] to abide by the following policies:

• I agree that I will refrain from using, sharing or uploading content I accessed through AUA websites or educational activities into external applications, bots, software, or websites, including those using artificial intelligence technologies and infrastructure, including deep learning, machine learning and large language models and generative AI.
• I agree that I will refrain from using or sharing any AUA content/data to train, alter, inform, or otherwise affect any form of artificial intelligence; deep learning; machine learning; or similar automated, autonomous, self-improving, or otherwise adaptive software model or program (whether automated as a whole or in part).
• In providing presentation(s), handouts, and related materials, I agree to only use AI tools for the following purposes: idea generation and general knowledge questions and research meant to enhance my understanding on a topic. I will not use AI tools to create final work product including, but not limited to, the presentation, handouts, related materials, content, and deliverables, with the exception of images, charts, drawings or similar graphics meant to enhance the presentation. If an image, chart, drawing or similar graphic is utilized, it must be properly cited.
• I represent and warrant that my Presentation is my (and/or my-co-presenters') original creation, and if utilizing another organization or individual's content into external applications, bots, software, or websites, I/we have obtained all necessary permissions and/or licenses to use and license the text, images and all content within this Presentation.

Revisions

Prior to the submission deadline, the submitter may log in to view, edit or delete an abstract. It is the responsibility of the submitter to ensure the abstract is complete and free of errors. After the submission deadline, revisions to the abstract content including authorship, will not be accepted.

Withdrawal

Requests to withdraw an abstract may sent by the submitter or presenting author to annualmeeting@AUAnet.org. Please include the submission ID and title in your request.

Submission Requirements

Body

Studies should present prospective, original research that highlights novel and high-impact research with practice-changing implications. The body must be informative and detailed. P2s must contain the following elements. Spaces are included in the character limit.

• Title (255 characters). The title should clearly define the topic. Refrain from the use of abbreviations unless necessary. For professional consistency, titles must be in sentence case, and not bold, underlined or italicized. Do not include a period at the end of the title. Identifying information such as author or institution names must not be included in the title.
• Introduction and objectives (400 characters)
• Methods (600 characters)
• Results (600 characters) The AUA recognizes that, particularly in the case of large Phase 3 studies, analysis may not be completed by the submission deadline. If this is the case, please make note in the conclusions section. During submission, you will be required to enter the background and methods sections, and provide the primary clinical endpoint for analysis, type of analysis, date of planned analysis, and planned statistical methods.
• Conclusions (400 characters)
• Funding (255 characters) Funding and grant support must be disclosed. If no funding was received, leave this field blank. Do not include authors names in this field.

Those selected for presentation will be required to provide the final data set and analysis two weeks before the Annual Meeting.

Authors

There is no limit to the number of authors included in an abstract. One author must be designated as the presenter.

The submitter must enter the following information for each author (* denotes a required field).

  • If U.S. is selected, state/territory is required

Presenting Author Eligibility & Disclosures

One author must be designated as the presenter. At the time of submission, the presenter is required to complete the disclosure form (auanet.org/COI).

The presenting author must disclose all financial relationships with ACCME-defined ineligible companies (formerly commercial interests) existing within the past 24 months. A presenter is not permitted to have financial relationships with ineligible companies that the ACCME would deem to be that of an owner or employee.

• Ineligible company = primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing health care products used by or on patients.
• Owners = individuals who have an ownership interest in a company, except for stockholders of publicly traded companies, or holders of shares through a pension or mutual fund.
• Employees = individuals hired to work for another person or business (the employer) for compensation and who are subject to the employer's direction as to the details of how to perform the job.

The AUA COI Review Work Group will determine which relationships are relevant and require mitigation. The AUA will contact the presenter if additional information is needed. If the presenter meets the definition of an owner or employee of an ineligible company, the presenter will have the opportunity to identify a co-author to present on their behalf, but the co-author must have been listed on the abstract at the time of submission and must have a current disclosure record, which will be reviewed.

Accepted P2s

Decision notifications will be sent to the presenting author. The presenting author is responsible for notifying any co-authors of the decision.

P2s accepted for presentation will be scheduled as part of the Plenary program. At the time of acceptance notification, details will be communicated regarding the date and time of presentation along with guidance and expectations. The presenter is required to respond to the invitation to present by the stated deadline.

Publication

P2s accepted for the Annual Meeting are copyrighted by the American Urological Association and published in a supplement of The Journal of Urology® on the first day of the Annual Meeting. No part of materials published in The Journal of Urology® may be reproduced without written permission of the publisher.
