“Giants” of medicine are those men and women who add great, important and unusual contributions to our specialty. They are often erected from elements of life that include education, mentors, research, teaching, training, exploration and risk. Such giants inspire us to contemplate our own achievements to ask, what will build the giant in me? AUA Annual Meeting attendees enjoyed the 2018 History Exhibit on Erecting Giants, dressing in early 1900s-style surgical gowns to handle instruments designed and used by famous urologist Hugh Hampton Young in an “operating room” set up for Young’s perineal prostatectomy operation.
