2026 History Exhibit: Explorations: Urology in Extreme Environments

AUA2026 – History Exhibit

Explorations: Urology in Extreme Environments investigates the role of urology and medicine in human exploration of extreme environments, with a primary focus on how astronauts survive in space through critical physiologic and engineering adaptations. It also considers medical challenges faced in other harsh settings, including deserts, polar regions, ocean depths, mountains, and jungles.

Driven by curiosity, scientific progress, and the human desire to explore, adaptability has been central to our survival and evolution and remains vital as we confront modern challenges such as climate change. Urologists, known for their innovation and technological leadership in fields such as laparoscopy, endourology, robotics, and minimally invasive surgery, exemplify this spirit of exploration.

As you journey through these environments, we hope the stories and histories of exploration in our exhibit serve to educate, entertain, and inspire you.

Don't miss these exclusive events:

  • See a SPACE SUIT like the ones worn by astronauts in the Apollo era.
  • Stop by for DAILY TALKS by renowned urologists.
  • Pick up a quirky GIFT at the museum store: socks, keychains, stickers, pins, and much more!

Visit Explorations: Urology in Extreme Environments at AUA History Booth #2741 in the Science and Technology Hall.
