The AUA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. All activities accredited by the AUA must adhere to the ACCME Criteria and the AMA PRA Credit System requirements. Please review the following documents and ensure adherence.

  • ACCME Criteria , including Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education
  • AMA PRA Handbook

Please note the following important aspects of the updated ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education:

  • Providers (this includes societies) may not share the names or contact information of their learners with ineligible companies (formerly commercial interests) without consent from the learner. Ineligible companies are those whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients. [Standard 2.3]
  • There must be a 30-minute break between accredited activities and marketing or non-accredited activities held in the same space. (i.e. if the Society has an industry sponsored lunch symposium that will take place in the same space as the CME activity, you must have a 30-minute break before and after the sponsored program.) [Standard 5.2a]
  • Regardless of COI disclosure, individuals controlling content may not market or sell their products or services (i.e. books or consulting). [Standard 2.2]
  • Owners and employees of ineligible companies are prohibited from participating in accredited activities.
