Lisa T. Beaule, MD
New England Section
Dr. Lisa Beaule is the Medical Director of Maine Medical Partners Urology. She completed her urology residency at the Lahey Clinic, earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed her undergraduate degree magna cum laude at Boston University. She currently holds leadership positions with the Management Forum for Maine Medical Partners and a subcommittee in physician professional and leadership development. Dr. Beaule holds memberships in the AUA, Maine Urologic Association, and the New England Section of the AUA (NE-AUA). She has served as the Maine representative of the NE-AUA Board of Directors and is the Chairperson of the Laser Safety Committee at Maine Medical Center. She will serve on the AUA Judicial and Ethics Committee starting in May 2012. Dr. Beaule holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Urology at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Lt. Col. Timothy Charles Brand, MD
Western Section
Dr. Timothy Brand is the Program Director at Madigan Healthcare System in Tacoma, Washington, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University. He completed his bachelor's of science in engineering and his medical degree at Tulane University. He received his residency training at Tripler Army Medical Center and then went on to complete a fellowship in urologic oncology and a master's of science in clinical investigation at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He chairs the robotics steering committee at Madigan and his research is primarily focused on prostate cancer and surgical simulation. He is a member of the AUA, Society of Urologic Oncology, and Society of Government Service Urologists. Dr. Brand is currently serving on the AUA Young Urologists Committee.
Steven Brandes, MD
South Central Section
Dr. Steven Brandes is Professor of Urologic Surgery and Urology Residency Director at Washington University in St. Louis. He is a graduate of the City College of New York and the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine of New York University. He received his general surgery and urology training at Temple University in Philadelphia, followed by a fellowship in trauma and reconstructive urology at the University of California, San Francisco and San Francisco General. He is a nationally recognized expert and thought leader in urologic trauma and lower urinary reconstructive surgery. He is the author of over 50 peer review publications, nearly two dozen book chapters, and editor of the textbook, Urethral Reconstructive Surgery.
James A. Brown, MD, FACS
North Central Section
Dr. James A. Brown currently serves as Professor at the University of Iowa's Department of Urology, specializing in urologic oncology, and is the Urology Department Residency Program Director. Dr. Brown completed his urology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, as well as several clinical fellowships in minimally-invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopic techniques and robot-assisted oncologic procedures. Dr. Brown is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the AUA, the Society of Urologic Oncology, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He is also a member of the Society for Basic Urologic Research, the Society of Government Service Urologists, and the American Association of Clinical Urologists. He serves on the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Urology.
Steven E. Canfield, MD
South Central Section
Dr. Steven Canfield received his medical school training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his urology residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and his urologic oncology fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He joined the faculty of the University of Texas (UT) Medical School at Houston and became involved in the promotion and teaching of evidence-based medicine in urology and the guideline development process. He is currently the program director for the residency at UT Houston and was recently named Chief of Urology for the Division.
Peter E. Clark, MD
Southeastern Section
Dr. Peter Clark received his medical degree at Harvard Medical School, completed urologic residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and a urologic oncology fellowship at the University of Southern California. He is currently an Associate Professor of Urologic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and serves as the Urology Residency Program Director. Dr. Clark is currently Chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines panel on bladder cancer. He is on several editorial boards, acts as a reviewer for multiple journals and has authored 129 publications and seven book chapters. He is currently serving as Councilor on the Board of Directors for the Society of University Urologists, alternate representative for TN to the Southeastern Section of the AUA, and is a member of the AUA Research Council.
Mark L. Fallick, MD, FACS
Mid-Atlantic Section
Dr. Mark Fallick received his bachelor's degree in Political Science from Columbia University and attended medical school at Tufts University. He performed his urology residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center and completed a fellowship in Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In addition to his practice, Dr. Fallick is active in advocacy and health policy/legislative issues. He served as a founding Board of Managers member of Delaware Valley Urology (DVU). He currently is Chairman of Quality Assurance at DVU and also serves on the Quality Improvement Committees of the Mid-Atlantic Stone Center and Centennial Surgery Center. Dr. Fallick is an American Association of Clinical Urologists State Society Network Representative and is on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Patient Care and Access Coalition.
Matthew Gettman, MD
North Central Section
Dr. Matthew Gettman is Professor of Urology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic and his fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern, University of Innsbruck, and Hospital Henri Mondor in Creteil, France. Dr. Gettman is departmental Vice-Chairman for Education and Residency Program Director at the Mayo Clinic. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications and has been an invited speaker globally on the topic of robotic surgery, natural orifice surgery and simulation training. He started the Robotic Surgery Program at Mayo Clinic in 2002. Dr. Gettman is Consultant Reviewer to several journals, including The Journal of Urology®, Journal of Endourology, and UROLOGY. He is on the editorial board for European Urology, Simulation in Healthcare, and Videourology.
Blake D. Hamilton, MD
Western Section
Dr. Blake Hamilton received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Brigham Young University. He attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a urology residency at the University of Utah and fellowship in Endourology and Laparoscopy at the Cleveland Clinic. He has been a faculty member at the University of Utah since 1997, where he functions as Residency Program Director, Urology Center Medical Director, and Vice Chair of the University of Utah's Clinical Operations.
Grace Hyun, MD
New York Section
Dr. Grace Hyun is the Associate Director of Pediatric Urology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Hyun received her undergraduate at Columbia University and obtained her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. Her urology residency at The Columbia University Medical Center was followed by a pediatric urology fellowship at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She is currently on the Committee for the Section of Urology of the New York Academy of Medicine.
Wassim Kassouf, MD
Northeastern Section
Dr. Wassim Kassouf is a faculty member at McGill University, following a fellowship in urologic oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Presently, he is the Program Director of the McGill Urology Residency. He has led the development of several national guidelines for optimizing quality of care in urologic cancer and has published over 140 peer-review manuscripts and book chapters. He is the founder of the national Canadian Bladder Cancer Network, a co-founder of Bladder Cancer Canada, Chair of the National Cancer Institute of Canada's disease-oriented group in bladder cancer, and an executive member of the National Institutes of Health Genitourinary steering committee Bladder Cancer Task Force. Dr. Kassouf has received several awards, including the AUA Research Scholar Award, Canadian Urological Association Scholarship, Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé Clinician Scientist Research Scholar Award, and the Everett C. Reid Teaching Excellence Award.
Chester J. Koh, MD, FACS, FAAP
Western Section
Dr. Chester Koh is an Associate Professor of Urology (Pediatric) at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) Institute of Urology/Keck School of Medicine. He received his BS in mechanical engineering from University of California, Berkeley and his MD from Tufts University. He completed his urology residency at USC, and his pediatric urology fellowship at Children's Hospital Boston/Harvard Medical School. He is the Director of the CHLA Robotic Surgery Program for minimally invasive surgery in children, and a National Institutes of Health-funded principal investigator (bladder regeneration) at the CHLA Saban Research Institute. He is also the Co-Director of the Center for Technology and Innovation in Pediatrics, a USC/CHLA pediatric medical device consortium. He currently serves on the AUA Western Section's Board of Directors.
Jodi K. Maranchie, MD, FACS
Northeastern Section
Dr. Jodi Maranchie is currently Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Pittsburgh, where her clinical focus is urologic cancer. She received her ScB from Brown University and medical degree from Northwestern University. Dr. Maranchie completed the Harvard Program in Urology residency followed by a urologic oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. Her basic research efforts are in molecular genetics of renal cancer and have been funded by the National Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society. Dr. Maranchie is active in the Society of Urologic Oncology and Society of Basic Urologic Research. She chairs the Research Scholarship Committee of the AUA Northeastern Section and serves on the Urology Care Foundation Research Council and The Journal of Urology® editorial board.
Matthew E. Nielsen, MD
Southeastern Section
Dr. Matthew Nielsen is currently Assistant Professor in the multidisciplinary genitourinary oncology group at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his BA with Distinction from the University of Kansas and his MD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the AOA Honor Society. He completed his postgraduate training at the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he served on the faculty as Assistant Chief of Service. He has co-authored over 70 papers, chapters and editorials, and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network. His research interests in outcomes, quality improvement and medical decision making are funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and dovetail with his active clinical practice in urologic oncology.
Andrew C. Peterson, MD
Southeastern Section
Dr. Andrew Peterson received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. He completed his surgery internship at Madigan Army Medical Center and then served for two years as the Brigade Surgeon in the US Army. He completed his urology residency at Madigan and subsequently completed a fellowship in Reconstructive Urology at Duke University. While at Madigan Army Medical Center, he served as the Chief of Reconstructive Urology, the Director of the urology residency, the Chairman of the institutional animal care and use committee (IACUC), and was on the institutional review board, as well as the AUA Guideline Panel for Asystomatic Microhematuria . Dr. Peterson joined the faculty at Duke in 2010, where he serves as the Vice Chief of Medical Operations.
Jay D. Raman, MD
Mid-Atlantic Section
Dr. Jay Raman is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Urology at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He received his undergraduate degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated AOA from Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Raman completed his urology residency at Cornell Medical Center followed by a fellowship in laparoscopy and endourology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His clinical practice focuses on laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery for upper and lower tract urologic malignancies, as well as endourology. To date, he has co-authored over 130 manuscripts, book chapters and editorials, and serves as a reviewer for 10 journals. Dr. Raman is currently serving his first year on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Atlantic Section of the AUA.
Thomas Rechtschaffen, MD
New York Section
Dr. Rechtschaffen is a partner at Integrated Medical Professionals in New York. He received his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Columbia University, his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed his urology residency training under the direction of Dr. Arnold Melman at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. He has devoted a lot of time to educating community physicians about urological disease. He is active in local hospital Tumor Boards and Cancer survivorship programs. He is on the voluntary faculty at the Montefiore Medical Center Department of Urology and is a member of the Large Urology Group Practice Association and the American Association of Clinical Urologists. His clinical interests include prostate cancer, voiding dysfunction and female urology. He has enjoyed attending the Joint Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC, for the last three years and hopes to enhance his advocacy for his fellow urologists through the experience in the AUA's Leadership Program.
Mark Stovsky, MD, MBA, FACS
North Central Section
Dr. Mark Stovsky is an academic urologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and an Associate Professor of Urology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Stovsky earned undergraduate and medical degrees from Northwestern and an MBA from University of Pittsburgh. He has served on the AUA Health Policy Council, the North Central Section's (NCS) Young Leadership Committee and the strategic planning group. He currently serves as the Ohio representative to the NCS Board of Directors, the NCS representative to the American Association of Clinical Urologists Board of Directors and as a member of the UROPAC advisory board. Dr. Stovsky is a Past President of the Ohio Urological Society and the Cleveland Urological Society, as well as a past board member of the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland.
Vijaya M. Vemulakonda, MD, JD
South Central Section
Dr. Vijaya Vemulakonda is an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Urology in the Division of Urology at the University of Colorado. She received her undergraduate degree from George Washington University. She earned her law degree from Harvard Law School and her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. She completed her urology residency at Baylor College of Medicine and her pediatric fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital, University of Washington School of Medicine. She currently serves on the AUA Judicial and Ethics Committee of the AUA and is the Associate Urology Residency Program Director at the University of Colorado. Her research interests include health disparities in children with congenital urologic anomalies and the role of shared decision making in optimizing surgical outcomes.
Andrew A. Wagner, MD
New England Section
Dr. Andrew Wagner attended Boston University College of Engineering prior to returning to Buffalo for medical school at the State University of New York Buffalo. He went on to complete his general surgery and urology training at the University of Massachusetts and a two year fellowship in endourology and laparoscopy at The Brady Institute of Urology at Johns Hopkins University. In 2006, he joined the urologic faculty at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston as Director of Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery. Dr. Wagner specializes in minimally invasive surgical approaches to urologic conditions, particularly prostate and kidney cancer. His research interests include refining laparoscopic and robotic surgical approaches, evaluating health related quality of life in patients following prostate and kidney surgery, and developing simulation strategies in robotic surgery.
