Systemic Immunotherapy for Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer: Current Practices and a Look to the Future
As immunotherapies and other novel treatments continue to emerge in urologic practice, clinicians across a variety of practice settings are navigating an increasingly complex treatment landscape. Practices need a clear game plan for identifying appropriate patients, providing access to these therapies, and recognizing and managing immune-related adverse events to support safe, effective care.
Recognizing the importance of timely patient access to newly FDA-approved immunotherapies and other novel treatments, the AUA, in collaboration with Pfizer, conducted focus groups, a membership survey, and interviews with healthcare professionals from three urology practices. The objective was to assess current practice patterns around the implementation of immunotherapies in a variety of practice settings, as well as the management of adverse events. The research conducted measured current knowledge, attitude, competence, practice patterns, barriers to best practices, and further explored current practice patterns around the implementation of immunotherapies through interviews with three practice sites.
This practice resource provides practical, actionable insights into current barriers to implementation, operational strategies to manage or overcome these barriers, and identifies best practices for management of adverse events to support safe, effective patient care by offering real-world perspectives and solutions from both the community and academic setting perspectives.
