AUA Advanced Practice Provider of the Year Award
The AUA Advanced Practice Provider (APP) of the Year Award was established by the 2019-2020 AUA APP Committee led by Chair, Tricia Zubert, APRN, CNP, to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of APPs in the field of urology. Since that time, the APP Committee selects a recipient to be honored with the award each year.

Congratulations to Kenneth A Mitchell, MPAS, PA-C, recipient of the 2023 Advanced Practice Provider (APP) of the Year award! Ken Mitchell is a certified Physician Assistant with over 28 years of clinical experience overall and with over 27 years of experience in Men’s Health. Ken actively promotes Men’s health and has participated in community outreach programs to educate men about sexual and overall health. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on Men’s Health and male sexual dysfunction. Ken is co-author of several publications on Men’s Health and APP utilization. These publications include the AUA Consensus Statement on Advanced Practice Providers (APP), the AUA whitepaper: Current State of Advanced Practice Providers in Urologic Practice, The Nurse Practitioner in Urology: A Manual for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and Allied Healthcare Providers, and the Manual of Men’s Health- A Practical Guide for APRNs and PAs, just to name a few. Ken advocates regularly as a practice consultant on integration and utilization of APP’s in urology practices and trains APPs in MH clinical practice.
Ken received his B.S. in Biology from Dana College (1988), and his Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) at the University of Nebraska Physician Assistant Program (1995). Ken is currently a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), the Urological Association of Physician Assistants (UAPA), associate member of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, Past Chair of the AUA APP Membership Committee, Past President of the Urological Association of Physician Assistants (UAPA) completing two consecutive terms as President, Past Chair of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America APP Affairs Committee, and board member at-large of the American Society of Men’s Health (ASMH). Ken was inducted into the Pi Alpha Physician Assistant National Honor Society in 2016. Ken is the Co-Founder and CEO of GUYnecology® Men’s Health a non-profit organization dedicated to Men’s Health research, provider training, consumer education, and health promotion.
Mr. Mitchell will be presented with his award at the upcoming Urologic Care for the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Program during the 2023 AUA Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL.
Eligibility
Any AUA APP member who has demonstrated a commitment to the field of urology in the following ways is eligible for nomination:
- An AUA Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Member in good standing
- Exemplifies strong leadership skills in the field of urology and provides outstanding patient care
- Significantly contributes to the APP program at their respective Section/Society meeting and/or shows leadership in coordinating other APP activities/initiatives
- Does not currently serve as a member of the AUA APP Committee
Winners receive a $1000 stipend to attend the AUA Annual Meeting and are formally recognized during the annual APP Program (Urologic Care for the Advanced Practice Provider).
The 2023 application cycle is now closed. Nominations for the 2024 APP of the Year award will open in Fall 2023.
