Three AQUA-Developed Measures Receive CMS Benchmarks
The AQUA Registry continues to serve as a “one-stop-shop” for urologic care providers, meeting the Quality Payment Program’s (QPP) requirements for Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) reporting. One of the Registry's key advantages is its ability to track and report on urology-specific quality measures, tailored to meet the unique needs of urologic care providers.
Over the past eleven years, the American Urological Association (AUA) has been developing specialized measures to enhance the value and relevance of MIPS reporting for urology professionals. A primary challenge for any new quality measure is achieving historical benchmark status, which requires compliance with strict Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) criteria. Specifically, a measure must be reported by at least 20 providers, each reporting on a minimum of 20 patient cases, within a single calendar year.
For the 2025 MIPS performance year, the AQUA Registry will support a total of 54 quality measures. Among these, three AQUA-developed urology-specific measures: AQUA8, AQUA14, and AQUA15, have successfully achieved CMS historical benchmark designation. This milestone reflects both the growing adoption of these measures and their importance in improving urologic care quality.
