Promoting Interoperability (PI): Watch for Your PI Letter This November
As an AQUA participant, you will receive a Promoting Interoperability (PI) letter in mid-November. The letter will show your PI participation status and the CMS reporting option for which your practice may qualify. Your practice’s option level is determined by its qualifying activity, so option levels may vary among practices.
Could Your Practice Qualify for PI Option 1?
To qualify for PI Option 1, CMS requires practices to actively use certified health information technology and meet specific data-sharing requirements. Some key factors include:
- Using Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT)
Your practice must use a CMS-certified EHR system to capture and manage patient information. - Electronic Prescribing (e-Prescribing)
Prescriptions should be sent electronically through your EHR to improve efficiency and patient safety. - Health Information Exchange (HIE)
Your practice must be able to securely share patient information with other healthcare providers when appropriate. - Provider to Patient Exchange
Patients should have electronic access to their health information, such as through a patient portal. - Required Reporting and Attestations
CMS requires the submission of specific PI measures and confirmation that program requirements have been met.
How AQUA Can Help
Active participation in AQUA supports many of the data exchange and reporting activities that contribute to PI success. Maintaining regular data submissions, keeping integrations up to date, and engaging with AQUA reporting tools can help your practice stay prepared for CMS reporting requirements and maximize available MIPS opportunities.
Keep an eye out for your PI letter in mid-November for details on your eligibility status and next steps. If you have questions, the AQUA team is here to help.
