Open Access (OA) is the practice of providing unrestricted access online to peer-reviewed scholarly research. OA journals offer “gold” OA, meaning immediate OA, to all their articles on the publisher’s website. “Gold” OA for individual articles is funded by authors [or their institution(s) or funder(s)] who pay an OA article processing charge (APC).

The APC for JU Open Plus full-length articles is $2,500 (USD) for non-members and discounted to $2,000 (USD) for AUA members for the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Public License, as currently displayed at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode (the “CC BY-NC-ND”) and $900 (USD) for non-members and discounted to $750 (USD) for AUA members for case reports, case series, research reports, and commentaries published under the CC BY-NC-ND license.

JU Open Plus offers full or partial equitable waivers for accepted articles from low- and middle-income economies. Eligibility is based on the Research4Life eligibility criteria. Countries listed in Group A are eligible for the full waiver, and countries listed in Group B are eligible for the partial (50%) waiver. The waiver is automatically applied based on the Corresponding Author’s country information provided during submission. To determine your eligibility, visit the Research4Life criteria page at https://www.research4life.org/access/criteria/.

Please be advised that JU Open Plus will only refund an APC if an editorial error has resulted in a failure to publish an article under the OA terms selected by the authors. APCs will not be refunded when articles are withdrawn voluntarily due to author error or misconduct.
